Hi! My name is Theodora Mladenova and I teach Economics, Mathematics, and Finance. I provide support for a wide variety of high school and university courses, as well as for professional exams. I am also here for you if you need advice regarding your academic and/or professional career.

I am a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and have a number of certificates from the Canadian Securities Institute. I am a graduate of the University of Toronto, where I earned an Economics Specialist degree with a minor in Political Science. I was Research Assistant to the director of the School of International Studies and later Co-Director of Compliance Studies for the G20 Research Group at the Munk School of Global Affairs. I was also an Economics Writer for Prep101 academic prep service, where I wrote mock Economics exams. I tutored during university and after graduation.

You can get in touch with me here.

My Teaching Approach and How I Share Knowledge

As a tutor specialising in economics, finance, and related disciplines (e.g. statistics, mathematics), I combine academic rigor with practical application to ensure that each lesson is both intellectually engaging and immediately useful. My teaching philosophy centres on clarity, adaptability, and confidence-building—making complex concepts understandable and showing students how to apply them in real-world scenarios.

Teaching Methodology & Techniques

I tailor my methodology to suit each student’s learning style and goals. Whether you’re a high school student tackling introductory economics, a university student mastering advanced financial models, or a professional preparing for exams like the CFA or Canadian Securities Institute certifications, I use:

  • Concept-first instruction, ensuring you understand the “why” before the “how”
  • Problem-based learning, with real-world examples and case studies
  • Active recall techniques and spaced repetition for exam preparation
  • Interactive tools, such as digital whiteboarding, structured notes, and practice quizzes

Typical Lesson Plan

There is no such thing as a “typical lesson” – I meet students where they are at. We begin with your goals, create an action plan, and execute on it. Depending on the student and the topic, I may use storytelling, diagrams, and breaking concepts down into manageable segments. My objective is to help you identify your gaps, explain concepts from the ground up so that you understand them, and give you practice to help you retain them.

What Sets Me Apart

What differentiates me as a tutor is my hybrid background: I bring both academic depth and extensive professional experience. I’ve worked with students across multiple levels and understand the nuances of preparing for high-stakes exams as well as succeeding in coursework. My sessions are focused but approachable, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes—both of which are key to learning.

Who My Lessons Are For

  • High school students needing a strong foundation in economics, mathematics or business
  • University/college students studying economics, finance, accounting, or related fields
  • Professionals and adult learners preparing for certifications such as CFA, Canadian Securities Course (CSC), or other industry-specific qualifications

Whether you’re aiming for top marks in school, tackling a challenging university module, or advancing your career through professional certification, I’ll meet you where you are and help you get to where you need to be.
