General Information

Hourly Rate

Online: $65-$70 (plus HST)

Initial Assessment

An assessment may be conducted as a part of the student’s first lesson. This is on a case-by-case basis.

Homework

While more practice is always beneficial, I understand that everyone’s time and needs vary. In the past, I’ve provided customized assignments and projects to support students’ goals. That said, extra work isn’t always necessary—especially when the focus is on immediate exam preparation or specific objectives.

Preparedness

To make the most of our tutoring sessions, I encourage students to come prepared. It’s very helpful if you can email me in advance with the topic(s) or question(s) you’d like to cover. This allows me to tailor the session to your needs and prepare any useful materials ahead of time.

Availability

I am able to schedule tutoring sessions 7 days a week between 7:00 AM and 9:30 PM ET. I occasionally schedule online sessions as early as 6:00 AM ET. Please use the contact form to inquire about availability on any given day.

Session Length

Sessions typically last between 60 and 180 minutes. Duration depends on the needs and preferences of the student. Sessions may vary with length over time; for example, sessions typically run for longer during exam periods.

In-Person Meeting Locations

Session locations are based on the student’s needs and preferences. Common meeting spots include public libraries downtown, libraries at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus, coffee shops, or the student’s home.

Online Sessions

Online sessions are held via Zoom. I share the whiteboard files with students after each session.

Payment

I accept cash, cheques, and Interac e-Transfers.

In-person sessions: Payment can be made before or after the session.

Online sessions: Payment before each session is required.

Alternate arrangements can be made on a case-by-case basis. There is no contract.

Policies and Procedures

Cancellation and No-show Policy

There is no fee for cancelling 24 hours or more in advance. If the session is cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, and another student doesn’t fill the spot, reimbursement for the session will be expected.

In the event of a no-show, reimbursement for the session and any travel expenses will be expected.

Lateness

If your session is cut short due to your being late, payment for the full length of the session is still expected as this is time that I have allocated to you.

Please notify me via email or text message if you are running late. Absent notification, I will wait for you for about 10 minutes.

Scheduling Priority

Individuals who prefer to meet on a regular basis and those who do not have a history of cancelling sessions on short notice will be given scheduling priority.

Assistance Outside of Teaching Sessions

If you have questions between tutoring sessions, you are welcome to email me and I will do my best to answer promptly. However, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to do so in the time you may require. If you suspect that you may need extra help through email or phone before our next session, please let me know in advance and I will do my best to assist you.

If you would like for me to look at something for you, or to prepare something for you, outside of a teaching session, please get in touch with me as early as you can, so that I can make sure I can allocate sufficient time for it.

Regular rates apply for any work completed outside of teaching sessions; payment amounts will be pro-rated for the time actually spent.

Refund Policy

If you feel that a tutoring session was not of benefit, you do not have to pay for it. Naturally, I will no longer be able to offer my services to you, but I may be able to help you find another editor or tutor whose services may be better suited for you.
